Venom: Let There Be Carnage
Let There Be Carnage’s focus on characters and relatable stakes is refreshing, but the Carnage vs. Venom conflict doesn’t seem like that big of a deal and I left the theater with more questions than answers.

Blue Bayou
Despite some major flaws in plot structure, Blue Bayou effectively gets you emotionally invested in the story of a person unjustifiably asked to leave this country, that's wrapped in an interesting visual style and layers of symbolism.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
This origin story has enough there in terms of fantastic fight sequences, character work, and Asian representation to more than make up for its abysmal finale.

Candyman (2021)
Candyman’s imaginative kills never get old, the characters of Anthony and Brianna get you more emotionally invested, and it has something to say about the detrimental impact of racialized violence and gentrification on the black community.
